I was recently in a school that had their art students paint the ceiling tiles. I thought it was a great idea!! Not only do they showcase student artwork, they brighten up any classroom and instantly draw you in and create a conversation piece. The ceiling is normally one of the most boring parts of any classroom; there are the lights, the speakers, the air vents and the white tiles with the random holes and scratches in them to break up the mundaneness, which are all very boring and most people hardly notice them.

I never thought about the ceiling much before today to be honest. But now that I have, I realize how much potential it has to bring a classroom to life! Some of the tiles are American History themed to match the classroom, some are sentimental like handprints and initials and some tiles are simply random insights into the wild imagination of middle schoolers. Regardless of their content, they personalize the space and make it more welcoming.
When I get my own classroom, I will definitely commission ceiling tile paintings! I will be like the Pope to Michelangelo.
